Silicosis
Dustless Technologies manufactures a line of dust control shrouds for power hand grinders that captures the harmful dust to protect workers from Silicosis. By capturing the harmful dust at its point-of-origin, the Dustless solution provides superior protection from Silicosis. Other methods allow silica dust to become airborne and rely on ventilation systems to vacate the harmful silica dust and breathing apparatus with filters to protect workers from Silicosis. The Wet Dry Vacuum from Dustless Technologies is also a critical component of the system that protects workers from Silicosis. The optional micro pre-filter captures fine particles down to .5 microns. Thats very close to the .3 microns of a HEPA rated filter. In fact, Dustless Technologies also has a HEPA rated version of their vaunted vacuum system for the ultimate in protection from Silicosis. Dustless Technologies also makes a Turbo Drywall Sander that captures drywall dust to protect operators from silicosis. Silicosis is a very serious safety issue for drywall workers because the nature of the work creates large amounts of fine airborne particles that can cause silicosis. It is the carcinogens in construction materials that make Silicosis a safety hazard in the workplace. Respiratory problems such as silicosis can develop from lengthy exposure to dust common to concrete surfacing, ceramic work and masonry grinding. OSHA and NIOSH are creating new guidelines to protect workers from the harmful affects of airborne particles, chief of which is the threat of silicosis. The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) notes that more than 1 million U.S. workers are exposed to crystalline silica dust and each year, more than 250 American workers die with silicosis. There is no cure for silicosis, but silicosis is preventable if employers take action to reduce exposures. Silicosis has become less common since the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) instituted regulations requiring the use of protective equipment, which limit the amount of silica dust that is inhaled.
